ATHLETIC UPDATES- SPRING BREAK EDITION
SPRING SPORTS UPDATE
It was a very busy week and weekend in Mustang athletics. The weather played a factor in some game cancellations, but in spite of that, teams were still able to compete at a high level
BOYS LACROSSE
The Boys lacrosse team continued its winning ways on Tuesday with a sudden death overtime victory against Avon 11-10. The Mustangs rallied from a 9-3 deficit to defeat a very good Avon team to improve its record to 4-1 on the season. Check out the video below on the incredible effort by the Mustangs. The Mustangs game against Avon Lake was postponed due to snow. That game will be made up on April 15th.
GIRLS LACROSSE
The Girls lacrosse team remained undefeated on the young season with victories over Westlake and Olentangy Berlin. On Wednesday, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Westlake and defeated the Demons, 18-7. On Saturday, the team hosted a very good Olentangy Berlin team at Pat Catan Stadium. The Lady Mustangs started slow, but were able to overcome a very good Berlin squad and secure the 16-13 victory over Olentangy Berlin. The Lady Mustangs are now 3-0 on the season and will not be back in action until Saturday April 10, when the team travels to CVCA.
The JV team remains undefeated as well, defeating Westlake and Olentangy Berlin.
GIRLS TRACK
Congratulations to the Girls Track Team for their 2nd place finish at the Avon Lake Invitational on Saturday. Competing against 17 teams, the Girls demonstrated grit and determination all day.
Finishing 1st were Julia Isham in the 3200 with a time of 11:31 and Sophia Birch in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 17:06.
2nd place finishes included the 4×800 Relay Team of Marquis Globokar, Tina Varis, Brynn Severance, and Sydney Wingler with a time of 10:14 and Ty’Niyah Holley in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 17.89.
Other scorers for the Lady Mustangs included Paige Fabrizi, 3rd in the High Jump, Brynn Severance, 3rd in the 1600, Sophia Birch, 5th in the 300 Hurdles and 6th in High Jump, Shelby Sallee, 5th in the 200 and 7th in the 100, the 4×100 Relay Team of Paige Fabrizi, Kayla Astrab, Robin Majernik, and Shelby Sallee who were 5th, Marquis Globokar, 5th in the 800, the 4×400 Relay Team of Paige Fabrizi, Kayla Astrab, LeAnne Hawk, and Marquis Globokar who were 7th, and Sydney Wingler, 8th in the 3200.
Great work Girls and continued success this year.
Early in the week, the Lady Mustangs track team defeated Berea-Midpark by a score of 71-65
BOYS TRACK
The boys track & field team traveled to Avon Lake Saturday for the 23rd Avon Lake Invitational. Amongst a field of talented teams and competitors the Mustangs managed to score 91 points with Brunswick 79.5 and Avon 71 rounding out the top three teams.
Our top performers were Anthony Lambert in the shot put 50'8.75" (2nd Place) and discus 137'6" (4th Place).
Our High Jump crew of Andrew Beten 6'3" (1st Place) Ohio #7 and Mason Birch 5'10" (3rd Place) scored a huge chunk of field points.
Jared Lewis went 12'6" and a 1st Place finish and is on his way to a solid season in the vault with some incredible attempts at 13'.
In addition, Jared Lewis placed 3rd in the 200M Dash with an incredible 22.89 Ohio #13! Alex Rupp finished 5th in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 16.01 and 4th in the 300M Hurdles with a time 42.30. Jacob Lloyd went 4:43.84 in the 1600M and finished 6th. Matt Cornelius went 51.61 in the 400M dash and took home the gold with Andrew Arslanian pulling in a 5th place finish with a 54.81. Cameron Derkacs placed 3rd in the 300M Hurdles with an Ohio #11 time of 41.86. The 4x400M crew of Derkacs, Arslanian, Rupp, and Cornelius pulled out a 5th place finish with a 3:34.41. Lastly the 4x200M crew of J Lewis, M Cornelius, A Arslanian, N Turner handedly brought home the gold AND meet record with a time of 1:31.88 Ohio #4!
This week the Mustangs will host the Pioneers of Elyria on Wednesday and then to Lexington on Saturday. Let's go boys, keep grinding..
SOFTBALL
The Mustangs softball team went 1-1 last week as they defeated Elyria 11-4 and then lost to Medina 12-2. Overall, the Lady Mustangs are 1-3 and 1-1 in GCC play.
The JV team continued its winning ways with a bug home win over Holy Name on Monday. On Wednesday, the Lady Mustangs JV team dropped their first game of the season to Medina. Overall, the JV team is 3-1 on the season.
BASEBALL
The Baseball team improved to 3-0 on the season with 2 GCC wins against Euclid and then a come from behind win Saturday against a very good Amherst team. Amherst is predicted to compete for a SWC title as well as be a force in the OHSAA tournament. The Mustangs trailed 4-1 in the 3rd inning before the team chipped away and eventually tied it 5-5 in the 5th inning. Connor Chupek was the unsung hero on the day with his leadoff HR in the top of the 8th inning to secure the Mustangs vicotory 6-5.
The JV team remained unbeaten as well with 10 run victories over Alliance and SVSM on Saturday.
The Freshman team defeated North Ridgeville on Saturday 4-2 to improve its overall record to 3-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of Massillon Perry last Monday 7-6
BOYS TENNIS
The Tennis team defeated Lakewood 4-1 last week and opens GCC play this week
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT TO HOST SENIOR ATHLETIC AWARDS MAY 24th
The awards presentation will mark the end of some fantastic high school careers for many athletes. More details will be coming out in the near future.

PRACTICES AND SCRIMMAGES CLOSED TO ALL SPECTATORS
Just a reminder that all practices and home scrimmages for all teams are closed to spectators. As we try to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all practices will be closed to parents, friends and community members. When the time is appropriate to open facilities for spectators, we will communicate with all families. Thanks for your understanding
REMINDER ABOUT SPECTATOR POLICY
Just a reminder about the athletic spectator policy. Tickets to all HOME events must be purchased in advance and online through our online ticket partner, Ticket Spicket. Also, even though games are outside, MASKS MUST STILL BE WORN AT ALL TIMES
ONLY IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS (i.e. parents and siblings) are allowed at home games. If you are NOT using your tickets, please do not "give" your allocated amount to another family. No ticket codes should be given to students to attend the games. There will be some new procedures in place for all spectators and you maybe asked to show your ticket if we think you are not supposed to be at the game.

We want to make sure everyone understands the testing procedures of COVID-19. If you suspect you may have COVID or you go and receive a COVID test, YOU ARE NOT to attend any practices or games until those test results come back. If you have questions on this, please reach out to the Athletic Training staff.

Mustangs live stream will be made available through BOXCAST on ROKU, Apple TV or Firestick. For sports such as Basketball and Wrestling, those will be live streamed on the SHS Athletics YouTube channel.
