On Saturday, the Mustangs traveled to North Royalton and defeated the Bears by a score of 1-0. Janjetovic was the lone goal for the Mustangs on a penalty kick late in the game. GIRLS TENNIS
Varsity 13-6 (2-3 GCC)
GCC Tournament finish: T-2
The Mustangs finished their season in the sectional tournament on Wednesday. On Monday of last week, the Lady Mustangs defeated Copley 4-1 to tie a school record for most victories in a season with 13.
VOLLEYBALL
Varsity: 6-9, (6-3 GCC)
The Volleyball team had a good week of play. The Lady Mustangs opened the week with a program sweep of Euclid at home. They followed that up with a program sweep on Mentor on Tuesday at home and on Senior Night. Then on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs had another program sweep of Elyria. The win against Elyria was crucial for conference standings considering that Elyria beat Brunswick earlier in the week giving Brunswick its first conference lost. The Lady Mustangs finished the week at home against #5 ranked Magnificat. The Lady Mustangs battled all match long, but well in 3 straight sets to the Blue Streaks. The Freshman and JV programs also lost vs Magnificat.
FOOTBALL
The Football team looked to win its first round playoff game vs Medina. Early on, it looked as if the Mustangs were going to keep the game very close and very low scoring and they traveled 9-0 after 1 quarter. The Mustangs then trimmed the Medina lead to 9-7 in the 2nd quarter. Some turnovers and key 3rd down conversions for the Bees made it 23-7 at the half in favor of Medina.
The start of the 2nd half was a strong one for the Mustangs as they marched right down the field in 3 minutes and had a 1st and goal from the Medina 3 yard line. The next play the Mustangs fumbled and Medina recovered. That turning point proved to be too much for the Mustangs as they eventually lost to Medina 37-7. The loss knocks the Mustangs out of the OHSAA playoffs and moves their record to 2-4.
The Freshman and JV played a combined game against Highland on Thursday at Pat Catan's Stadium. The Mustangs lost a hard fought battle 32-26. The team will be back in action as they travel to Wadsworth on Saturday to take on the Grizzlies.
